Choose Omni if avoiding a mandatory platform subscription and having an on-device data display matter most. Budget separately for course credits.

| Buying decision | SkyTrak ST MAX | Square Golf Omni |
|---|---|---|
| Guide budget | £1,500–£2,100 | £1,500–£1,600 |
| Tracking | Dual Doppler radar plus cameras | Camera-based ball and club tracking |
| Feedback | External device needed | Small built-in data display; separate device for simulator play |
| Practice focus | Speed training and SkyTrak game-improvement tools | Ball/club analysis and impact-location feedback |
| Balls and club markers | Check current setup guidance for your intended data | Unmarked balls supported; club markers enable club analysis |
| Software costs | Verify the included first-year offer and subsequent membership tier | No mandatory subscription to Square’s platform; course credits and third-party licences can cost extra |
| Outdoor plans | Check supported hitting surface and setup guidance | Manufacturer supports natural turf; that claim is not proof of equal performance in all outdoor conditions |
For a buyer starting from scratch, we would shortlist Omni first if the priority is flexibility over recurring spending. That recommendation changes if SkyTrak’s practice tools or a particular supported course-play package are what you actually want to use.
Before ordering either unit, pick your intended software and check its device requirements, putting support, licence and connection method. An attractive monitor can become the wrong purchase if the simulator you want needs a different membership or computer.
A permanent practice bay used mostly by one golfer makes the external-device workflow less troublesome. If speed training, bag mapping or structured SkyTrak practice sessions are your main goal, paying for the ecosystem can be reasonable.
If you mainly want to practise, inspect shot feedback and choose how much to spend on virtual rounds, the credit model is easier to tailor to usage. For an indoor-only buyer on a tighter budget, also compare the original Square Golf before spending more.
Side-on placement avoids the extra tracking distance behind the ball that rear-mounted radar systems need. It does not remove the need for a safe swing. Measure width, ceiling height and the position of beams with your longest club, then add the screen or net clearance required by its supplier.
For mixed-handed households, leave a safe position for the monitor on both sides of the ball. Moving it between players is a practical drawback of both choices. Do not use a nominal room size as a guarantee that your swing will fit.

| Cost to record | How to compare fairly |
|---|---|
| Hardware | Use the current retailer price for the exact model; guide budgets are editorial planning bands. |
| Computer and display | Use £0 only if your existing device meets the selected software requirements. GSPro-style PC builds must include the PC separately. |
| Membership | For an annual fee A, three paid years cost 3 × A. If the exact offer includes year one, two renewals cost 2 × A, assuming the fee stays unchanged. |
| Credits and licences | Allow for actual rounds and paid third-party software. No mandatory subscription does not mean every course is free. |
| Room equipment | Compare the same safe mat, screen/net and protection. Add a projector only if you want projected golf. |
Illustration only: a £250 yearly licence adds £750 across three paid years, or £500 after an included first year. This is arithmetic, not a quoted membership price for either product. Confirm UK renewal prices and taxes before choosing.

No. Square’s course credits and paid third-party licences remain part of the budget.
We have not performed a controlled comparison and cannot name an accuracy winner. Manufacturer specifications alone do not establish one.
Our recommendation combines published specifications, software terms and UK setup needs. It does not establish which unit is more accurate. Distances and shot shapes may be derived from measured launch inputs; a longer metrics list does not mean more independently measured quantities. Check the manufacturer’s definition of each metric before buying for coaching.
