Privacy and analytics
This page explains what information Golf Gear Lab collects when you use the website or contact us, why, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations).
Who we are
The data controller is Golf Gear Lab, an independent UK golf technology website. Contact us about privacy at hello@golfgearlab.co.uk.
Your analytics choice
Golf Gear Lab uses Google Analytics Consent Mode to understand which guides and comparisons readers find useful. Before you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics operates with analytics storage denied and does not set analytics cookies. If you select “Allow analytics”, analytics storage is granted and fuller measurement can begin.
You can decline analytics cookies and still use the whole website. Your choice is stored in your browser so the site can remember it. Select the button below whenever you want to review or change it.

What we collect and why
- Google Analytics (with your consent). Pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how visitors move through the site. Lawful basis: your consent. If you decline, consent mode can still send limited cookieless measurement signals to Google. Google Analytics data is retained according to the setting in our Analytics property. Contact us if you would like the current retention period.
- Ahrefs Web Analytics. Aggregate visit statistics such as page views and referring sites. Ahrefs states that this service does not use cookies or collect personal data. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
- Referral and click measurement. The site keeps a small note in your browser’s session storage of how you arrived (for example from a search engine) and which “Check prices” button you used, so we can see which guides help readers. It is deleted when you close the browser tab and is not used to identify you. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
- Emails you send us. Your email address and message, used only to reply and to correct or improve the site. Lawful basis: legitimate interest. We delete correspondence when it is no longer needed.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records technical information such as IP addresses and requested pages to keep the site secure and working. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
We do not sell personal information, run advertising cookies, or build profiles of visitors.
Who processes data for us
Google (analytics), Ahrefs (aggregate analytics) and our web hosting provider process data on our behalf. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on legally recognised safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
Affiliate links and retailer sites
Some retailer links are affiliate links. If you follow one and make a purchase, Golf Gear Lab may receive a commission without increasing the price you pay. Once you click through, the retailer and affiliate network (such as Amazon or Awin) set their own cookies to record the referral; their privacy policies apply on their sites. See the affiliate disclosure for details.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (use the settings button above). Email hello@golfgearlab.co.uk to use any of these rights.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
