Paying for a simulator

Golf simulator finance UK: how to spread the cost

Interest-free plans from the retailer are usually the cheapest way to spread the cost, if you can repay on time. Most cap the amount or the term, so a full room is often split across two orders, or paid in stages to an installer.

What it costs a month at 0%

On an interest-free plan you repay the price divided by the months. These complete-room figures come from our shopping lists; check what the retailer’s plan actually allows for your basket.

BuildTypical totalOver 6 monthsOver 12 monthsOver 24 months
Rapsodo MLM2PRO net setup£2,000£333£167£83
Square Golf garage room£3,500£583£292£146
Garmin R50 SimBox build£7,000£1,167£583£292

Twenty-four months interest-free is rarer: of the retailers above, only Scottsdale Golf listed it, and only on orders of £2,500 or more. DivideBuy at GolfBays tops out at £6,000, so a bigger room is usually split, for example the launch monitor on one plan and the enclosure on another, or part paid in cash. Add yearly software too: see subscription costs.

Fitted rooms and installers

A fitted room from a specialist is usually paid as a deposit, then the balance on or near completion, rather than through retail finance. Get a written quote that lists every part, the room size it is designed for, and the payment stages (see what a quote should include). Avoid paying the whole cost before work starts. Paying the deposit by credit card can give you Section 75 protection if the company fails to deliver.

Before you sign

  • The total amount repayable, not just the monthly figure.
  • Any deposit, and whether it is taken before dispatch.
  • What happens if you miss a payment: fees, interest, and reporting to credit reference agencies.
  • Whether the eligibility check is soft (no mark on your file) or a full search.
  • Whether you can repay early without a charge.
  • That the plan covers everything in the basket; software subscriptions bought separately will not be on it.
