A double garage gives you choices—use the extra space wisely.

The main advantage is not simply a larger screen. It is the ability to centre the golfer, separate storage from the swing zone and make left/right-handed use much easier.

What the extra width changes

Centred hitting position

A centred golfer makes the room easier to share and simplifies a symmetrical image.

Permanent side storage

Bags, trolleys and tools can remain outside the protected swing zone.

Overhead launch monitors

A wider permanent bay can justify ceiling-mounted tracking where the budget supports it.

Seating and control area

Keep spectators and PC controls outside the club path and likely ricochet zone.

Better acoustic treatment

More wall area gives options for soft finishes without squeezing the golfer.

Future upgrades

Allow conduit, power and mounting points for later projector, display or tracking upgrades.

Do not assume two garage bays equal a tall room. Double garages still commonly have door tracks, beams and motors crossing the swing area. Clear height remains the first check.

Practical buying decision

A double garage gives options—but measure the finished room

The extra width of a double garage can support central hitting, mixed-handed play and storage, but doors, roof structure, services and floor slope often reduce the space that is genuinely usable.

Measure after conversion

Record clear ceiling height beneath beams and openers, wall-to-wall swing width and depth from the hitting position to the screen and rear equipment.

Control the environment

Insulation, ventilation and moisture management protect electronics and make winter practice comfortable. Plan power, network access and controllable lighting before decoration.

Choose the room layout

Decide whether one bay remains available for a car. Retractable protection can preserve flexibility; a permanent enclosure normally gives better containment and image consistency.

Build a complete budget

Include floor levelling, mat recess, screen clearance, acoustic treatment, projector mounting and electrical work. These room costs can exceed the difference between two launch monitors.
