Garage simulator

Building a golf simulator in a single garage.

A single garage can be an excellent golf room, but the usable dimensions after door tracks, storage and insulation matter more than the estate-agent dimensions.

The order we would plan it

1. Measure clear height

Measure beneath the lowest door track, motor, light and beam across the complete swing area.

2. Choose the hitting position

Prove driver clearance before deciding where the screen or launch monitor goes.

3. Choose monitor technology

Camera-based systems can suit shallower rooms; radar systems need their specified depth behind and ahead of the ball.

4. Solve containment

Allow screen buffer, side protection and ceiling protection for realistic misses.

5. Treat the garage

Damp, condensation, cold concrete, ventilation and noise can matter as much as the electronics.

6. Add projection last

Only choose projector throw ratio after screen width and lens position are known.
