What independent testing reveals
Golf Monthly’s junior tester Thomas Oubridge found the J1 comfortable, light and easy to use, with a responsive touchscreen and helpful green and hazard information. It offers a practical way for a young golfer to learn course strategy. Check the recording settings during setup, as his test needed an adjustment before statistics were captured.

Read the detailed findings and test limitations
The reviewer was a 24-handicap junior, giving the report a relevant user perspective. He liked manually positioning the pin and quickly accessing local courses. His positive experience does not guarantee an improvement in scoring for every child.
This is one reviewer’s experience with the tested unit and conditions; it is not a guarantee for every course or golfer.
The 30-second verdict
A proper golf watch made for young golfers. The junior features, such as Personal Par and tee advice, grow with the player and can be switched off as they improve.

Why it stands out
The J1 is not just a smaller adult watch. It suggests which tee to play from, sets Personal Par targets so juniors have realistic goals, and includes forward-tee distances on more than 43,000 courses.
Parents can follow scorecards and progress in the Garmin Golf app, and the learning aids can be switched off as the player improves. It is a premium price for a junior watch, but it is built to last several seasons.
