Display decision

Can you use a golf simulator without a projector?

Yes. A launch monitor can send the visual experience to a TV, monitor, tablet or laptop while you hit into a net. Projection is optional, not a requirement for useful practice.

UK buying guideUpdated 12 August 2026Independent analysis

For many golfers, a net plus display is the better first system.

It costs less, is easier to move and lets you learn whether you actually use simulator software before committing to an enclosure, projector and permanent room.

Practical buying decision

A projector is optional; safe ball capture is not

A launch monitor, safe net or impact screen and a separate display can provide useful practice and simulated golf without the cost or installation work of a projector. It is often the most sensible first stage of a room that may be upgraded later.

Best low-cost route

Use a quality net with a tablet or television positioned outside the strike and ricochet area. This works well for practice data and occasional simulated rounds.

Best multi-use route

A wall-mounted TV can serve the room when golf equipment is stored away. Protect it from direct and deflected shots and keep cables outside the hitting area.

What you lose

You do not see the course in front of the hitting position, so the experience is less immersive and aiming can feel less natural.

Upgrade path

Choose a room layout, enclosure and computer that can later accept a projector. Confirm throw distance, aspect ratio and mounting position before buying the screen.
