What it does
The G12 gives GPS distances to the front, middle and back of the green. Garmin’s manual also covers hazards, layups, doglegs, a moveable pin position on the green view, a scorecard and a larger-number display. It is a distance guide rather than a laser reading of the actual flag. Garmin lists up to 30 hours of battery life; real use varies.
It is compact and clips to clothing or a bag. The black-and-white display is functional, but golfers who want a colourful hole map or a touchscreen should consider a larger handheld GPS. Garmin identifies the UK device as part number 010-02555-01.
Who should buy it?
A good fit
A golfer who dislikes watches, wants simple yardages and already owns a comfortable bag or trolley position for a clip-on GPS.
Think twice
A golfer who needs exact flag distance, full-colour mapping or automatic shot tracking. A laser, richer handheld or tracking watch serves those needs better.
