The Z82 is the better buy if you play lots of different courses. The Pro X3+ is the better buy if you play one course and want the best laser.
GPS inside a laser
The Z82 shows a full-colour 2D map of the hole inside the viewfinder. It gives distances to hazards and to the front and back of the green, and it works on more than 43,000 preloaded courses. That helps on a blind tee shot or an unfamiliar course, where a laser alone has nothing to aim at. It charges like a phone, and Garmin quotes up to 15 hours.
The best of Bushnell’s lasers
The Pro X3+ offers 7x magnification and PinSeeker with Visual Jolt, which gives a vibration and a red-ring flash when it locks onto the flag. Its Slope with Elements adjusts for temperature and air pressure as well as elevation. The + model adds wind speed and direction, pulled from the nearest weather station through the Bushnell Golf app. It uses a replaceable CR2 battery rather than charging.
Competition golf
The Z82 has a tournament mode with an external indicator light, and the Pro X3+ has a physical Slope Switch, so playing partners can see slope is off. Check your club’s local rule before relying on any extra feature.
